Local Information

Venue

ALGO 2026 will be held from August 31 to September 4, 2026 at the Department of Human Studies (red marker) and at the “San Basilio’’ Congress Centre (blue marker) of the University of L’Aquila.

The two buildings are in front of each other and close to the city centre of L’Aquila.

ALGO 2026 is immediately after the Perdonanza Celestiniana (a major local religious festival), and just before a Jazz Festival. Since the city is expected to be busier than usual, early booking for hotels is highly recommended! See also the Hotels section below.

Reaching L’Aquila

By Plane & Bus

L’Aquila does not have its own commercial airport. Most international attendees should fly into one of the two airports in Rome. A less preferred option involves flying to the Pescara (PSR) airport.

From Rome

1. From Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” (FCO)

This is the primary international gateway. From the airport you have some options:

  • Option 1 (recommended): The Gaspari Bus service runs directly to L’Aquila and stops at Hotel Amiternum, which is on the western outskirts of the city.  The trip is about 2:30 hours long.  Refer to the “Getting Around in L’Aquila” section for the next steps.
Tickets: Can be purchased from https://www.gasparionline.it/en/
  • Option 2: The Flixbus service runs from Fiumicino Airport to L’Aquila and stops at Hotel Amiternum, which is on the western outskirts of the city. The trip is about 2:30 hours long. Refer to the “Getting Around in L’Aquila” section for the next steps.
Tickets: Can be purchased from https://shop.flixbus.com
  • Option 3: Take a train from the Fiumicino Airport station (reachable by foot from the terminal) to Roma Tiburtina, then refer to the “By Bus From Rome” section.
Tickets: can be purchased from the vending machines directly at the train station and from https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html (the departure station is “Fiumicino Aeroporto”, the arrival station is “Roma Tiburtina”).

2. Rome Ciampino (CIA)

This airport is used primarily by low-cost carriers. The Gaspari Bus service runs directly to L’Aquila and stops at Hotel Amiternum, which is on the western outskirts of the city.  The trip takes about 2 hours.  If your hotel is in the city centre, refer to the “Getting Around in L’Aquila” section for the next steps.
Tickets: Can be purchased from https://www.gasparionline.it/en/

Rome has two civilian airports: Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo Da Vinci” (FCO) and Rome Ciampino (CIA).

Private buses

We are also planning to offer one or more private buses from the airports in Rome to L’Aquila on Sunday August 30 in addition to public transportation.

There will be one bus departing around 24:00 from FCO with an intermediate stop at CIA around 00:30 of Monday August 31.

In case of high demand, we will also consider providing additional shuttles on Sunday August 30. Please check back on this page for further updates.

3. From the Abruzzo Airport (PSR) in Pescara

This is a smaller airport closer to L’Aquila, serving select European cities. From the airport take a local bus to Pescara Central Station, then a TUA (Regional Transport) bus to L’Aquila. The TUA trip is about 1.5 hours long.

By Bus from Rome

Bus travel is the recommended method for reaching L’Aquila from Rome. Buses depart from the Rome Tiburtina bus terminal which is next to the Rome Tiburtina Train Station and can be reached by train or by taking the Metro line B.

The terminal serves multiple companies with buses to L’Aquila. Regardless of the company, the trip lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

  • TUA (Società Unica Abruzzese di Trasporto) to L’Aquila. Such buses leave almost every hour. These buses arrive at the Terminal Bus Collemaggio.
Tickets can be purchased at the “Biglietteria TUA” at the Tiburtina bus terminal.
  • Gaspari Bus:  The Gaspari Bus service runs directly to L’Aquila and stops at Hotel Amiternum, which is on the western outskirts of the city.
Tickets: Can be purchased from https://www.gasparionline.it/en/
  • FlixBus: Flixbus runs directly to L’Aquila and stops at Terminal Collemaggio, near the city centre. Tickets can be bought from: https://www.flixbus.it/
